The Niger state council of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ) yesterday, felicitated with the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and the good people of Niger State on the occasion of the 64th Anniversary of Nigeria Indepence day.
The Union specifically extolled the virtues of the founding fathers of the nation and those who have contributed to the development of Niger state till date.
NUJ observed with delight the efforts of the present administration in re engineering development in the state through it's New Niger agenda and deliberate investment in Agricultural potentials of the state .
A Statement by the secretary of the council Comrade Usman Chiji specifically eulogized the vision of the Governor but reminded the government on the need to match the reality of the present hardships faced by the people with his strategic actions and policy framework to achieve the desire objectives.
Comrade Usman Chiji maintained that in achieving any development agenda , the people must be functionally mobilised and engaged to own the process of development, thus the media must be seen as critical stakeholders to effectively play the role of engagement and mobilization.
On this ground, the State secretary of NUJ assured of the support of Media practitioners in the state for the achievement of the set goals of Mohammed Umaru Bago's administration to the extent , conducive environment in line with democratic values is given for them to seamlessly practice their profession.
As gatekeepers, the State Secretary of NUJ said Journalism is a a veritable tool for Cultivating the culture of Nation building , hence the need for them to be seen as partners in achieving progressive agenda for the good of the people.
The Union thanked the Governor for his efforts so far and urge him to sustain the tempo, while praying for the best at the nation's 64th independence anniversary.
