The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Silas Agara, has reaffirmed the agency's commitment to advancing President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. During a recent board meeting, Agara announced the launch of the NDE's 30th job skills initiative, aimed at empowering unemployed Nigerian youth.
As part of this groundbreaking effort, an online registration portal was unveiled on October 21, targeting the engagement of 900,000 youths in specialized skill development programs. The initiative, which runs until October 28, seeks to improve access to training opportunities and stimulate job creation across various sectors.
Agara emphasized the crucial role of media in raising awareness about this initiative, urging both traditional and digital outlets to inform young Nigerians about the registration process. He highlighted that the program aims to select a minimum of ten participants from each electoral ward, ensuring broad geographical representation and inclusivity.
The selection process will prioritize fairness and transparency, with notifications to eligible participants scheduled between October 29 and November 4. Agara stated, “We are committed to giving equal rights and opportunities regardless of geographical zones,” reinforcing the integrity of the initiative.
To streamline applications, the NDE requires prospective participants to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) to prevent duplicate submissions and maximize the program's reach.
As Nigeria faces a significant unemployment challenge, particularly among its youth, this skills development initiative is crucial for fostering economic growth and enhancing productivity nationwide. By equipping young people with essential skills, the NDE aims to mitigate unemployment and contribute to a more sustainable future.
