Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule visited Jangwa in Awe Local Government Area on October 24, 2024, to witness the harvesting of rice from 2,000 hectares of land. This initiative is part of a broader effort to boost food security in alignment with the federal government's renewed hope agenda.
During his visit, Governor Sule observed three combined harvesters at work, marking the successful conclusion of the first growing season for the Faro-44 rice variety, which was cultivated over six months. He emphasized the importance of agricultural leadership and innovation, stating, “To truly represent Nasarawa as a state of solid minerals and agriculture, we must set a standard.”
The governor revealed plans for two harvests each year from the identified 10,000 hectares of land, assuring residents that additional harvesters would be brought in to expedite the process. "In just two days, we've covered 14 hectares; it's clear we need more machinery to meet our goals," he noted.
Addressing community concerns about land ownership and relocation, Sule clarified that disputes arose near Agwatashi in Obi Local Government, not within the Jangwa area. He assured that all claims would be assessed fairly, and provisions would be made for those currently farming on the land.
Governor Sule expressed gratitude to the Jangwa community for their support and recognized the contributions of farm consultant Engineer Bramo Ogunwale, who returned from retirement to manage the project, and former Agriculture Commissioner Hon. Umar Dan Akano for his efforts in making the farm a success.
