Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has condemned the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State for its handling of the ongoing erosion crisis in Ideato North and South local government areas.
According to Anyanwu, the government has allowed the erosion problem to persist, leading to the destruction of properties, by failing to comply with contract guidelines set by the World Bank.
In a strongly worded statement, Anyanwu criticized the APC-led government for prioritizing personal gains over the well-being of Imo citizens.
He cited the arbitrary termination of a World Bank-backed N10 billion erosion control project in Urualla, which would have mitigated the situation.
The senator claimed the project was halted because the state government’s request to supervise it and secure a N500 million counterpart fund was rejected by the World Bank.
Anyanwu emphasized that responsible governance does not require applause to carry out its duties, accusing the Uzodinma administration of being "insensitive, non-proactive, and irresponsible."
He lamented the poor road access in the Ideato area, despite the substantial resources available to the government.
The senator urged the state government to remember that it was elected to serve the people of Imo and should stop acting as if the citizens have no stake in the state's future.
