The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), chaired by Justice Adolphus Enebeli, has declared the Action Peoples Party (APP) as the winner of 22 chairmanship seats in the October 5, 2024, local government elections.

Justice Enebeli announced the results after the collation of votes, noting that APP candidates received the majority of valid votes in two-thirds of the wards across 22 local government areas.

However, the results for Etche Local Government Area's chairmanship race were delayed due to the area's large size and ongoing vote collation in its 19 wards.

The declaration, made in Port Harcourt, was attended by representatives from 18 political parties, the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society groups, returning officers, and media personnel.

The election was conducted in 6,866 polling units across 319 wards, with 18 out of 19 political parties participating.

Justice Enebeli praised the peaceful conduct of the elections, despite heavy rain on election day, and assured that the remaining results for Etche's chairmanship and all 319 councillorship positions would be announced once collation is complete.

He commended Rivers citizens for their enthusiastic participation and emphasized that the process was transparent, free, and credible.

Among the chairmanship winners are Vincent Reuben Obu (Abua/Odual), Chibudom Ezu (Ahoada-East), and Mrs. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide (Akuku-Toru). Full details of the winners and their scores will be published by RSIEC.
