On Sunday, Richard Tombowua, Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had emerged victorious in the local government elections held on Saturday.
The APC secured all 23 chairmanship positions and won all 276 councillorship seats across the state.
Tombowua, speaking at the commission’s headquarters on Naka Road, stated, "The election held yesterday across the state went smoothly, it was free and fair. The returning officers have submitted all results, and APC won all chairmanship and councillorship positions."
He also noted that five out of the eight political parties that submitted candidates participated in the election.
These parties included the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In response to the results, Ibrahim Idoko, Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and Labour Party, commended SIEC for conducting a smooth election.
He also acknowledged Governor Hyacinth Alia for providing a fair platform for all parties and mentioned that Labour Party would review the outcome and issue its stance later.
