Forty four applicants have applied for the post of High Court Judges in the service of the Niger State Judiciary, Rimawaglobalnews have reliably gathered.
Among those applicants are mostly serving directors in the service of the State Judiciary,some serving chief Magistrates, and two deputy serving chief registrar in the Niger State Judiciary.
Also, four Public Legal practitioners from the state Ministry of Justice and one private legal practitioner were
among the applicants.
Prominent among the applicants from the Niger State Judiciary, Include, the Chief Registrar of the High Court division of the State Judiciary, Hajiya Amina Lamide Musa, the Deputy Chief Registrar Administration in the state Judiciary, Hajiya Maryam Daso Jibo, Deputy Chief Registrar in-charge of Magistrate Alhaji Hassan Mohammed among other senior management.
Already, the applicants it was reliably gathered that have been invited for security screenings by the Niger State Command of the Department of Security Service (DSS) to verify their claimed.
Out of the Forty four applicants, twenty two of them were invited for the DSS Screening out of which some numbers will be drop and forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC), for further screening.
It was reliably gathered that out of the forty four applicants that have indicated their interest for the appointment only four vacancies that is required to be fill for the appointment in to the already available vacancies in the Niger state High
Already,four of the High Courts in Kuta,Lapai,Kutigi and in Minna are vacant without Presiding Judges just as two of the High Courts in Lapai and Kuta are being over seen by a sitting High court Judge in Suleja, Justice Danladi Ahmed Badegi, and that of Kuta is being overseen by a sitting High of Newbussa Justice Isaac Kolo.
Also it was gathered that another High Court in Rijau has been relocated to Kontagora without any Presiding Judge nor an overseeing judge.
The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik had during the 2023, Legal year, requested the governor of Niger State to give the approval for the appointment of four High Court Judges into the vacant offices to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for their appointment.
" Your excellency, I request for your approval for the appointments of four additional High Court Judges to be appointed by the National Judicial Council (NJC)". she told governor Umar Mohammed Bago at the 2023 Legal year.
Currently, Niger State has thirteen High courts with seven in Minna High Court headquarters with three in Suleja,while Bida, Newbussa and Kontagora has one each.
