In a significant political development, key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, including Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South at the National Assembly, and his predecessor, Senator Suleiman Adokwe, have secured a court injunction halting the upcoming state congresses.
The congress, scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024, was meant to elect new party officials.
Other notable applicants for the injunction include former Deputy Governor Mike Abdul, retired General Nuhu Angbazo, Hon. Abdulkarim Usman Ombamas, Nathaniel Aboki, Jubril Sabo Keana, Adamu E. Oyanki, and Musa Elayo.
These stakeholders moved to the High Court of Justice in Doma, presided over by Hon. Justice Abdullahi H. Shams Shama, seeking to restrain the Francis Orogu-led PDP executives from conducting the congresses.
Justice Abdullahi Shama ruled in favor of the applicants, issuing an interim injunction that restrains the PDP's Nasarawa State Chapter from conducting the congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels.
The injunction remains in effect until a motion on notice is heard.
The court has set October 3, 2024, for further hearing on the matter.
As of this report, PDP State Chairman Hon. Francis Orogu has not issued a statement in response to the court's decision.
