Adejuwon Soyinka, the Regional Editor for West Africa at The Conversation Africa and former Editor of the BBC Pidgin Service, was detained by the Department of State Security (DSS) upon his arrival at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning, August 25, 2024, at approximately 5:40 a.m., shortly after Soyinka arrived on a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.
At the time of this report, the DSS has not provided any reasons for his detention. Soyinka has been unreachable, with calls and messages to his phone going unanswered.
