The Benue State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange, has brokered peace between the two factions of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the state.
This was contained in a communique issued by Ikyange on Tuesday in Makurdi.
According to the communique, the executives of the two factions had been dissolved with immediate effect since their tenures expired.
It further stated that the various electoral committees earlier set up for the purpose of conducting elections for the two factions had also been dissolved.
It stated that a new electoral committee consisting of Mr Terkula Atom as Chairman, Mr Babs Usigbe and Mr Uche Nnorom as members was constituted with Mr Bem Abunde, as the representative of the Commissioner who would be an observer.
It stated that the electoral committee had one month from to conduct the election that would usher in a new executive for SWAN in the state.
It further stated that the commissioner together with the committee would engage the National Body of SWAN to open a two week window period to enable those who had not registered or renewed their registration to do so.
It stated that all those who bought forms for election with the various factional committees and were still interested in contesting the elections would be revalidated and giving new form free of charge, while those who were intending to join the contest were to purchase their forms.
It stated that there should be no exclusion of any sports writer wishing to register and be part of SWAN in the State.
It stated that the commissioner pledged to ensure that the state government would support the smooth conduct of SWAN election and assured that his Ministry and would fully integrate the new executives into the scheme of things in the state.
