The newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami, has pledged to establish an effective and cordial working relationship with the university's management, aligning with the institution's foundational mandate.
During his address to the FUHSO delegation, led by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Stephen Abah, following the inauguration of the council at the Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja,
Engr. Salami emphasized efforts to enhance the university's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Expressing his gratitude for the turnout and support from the university's management, Salami commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah, for his solidarity.
He assured that the council members would collaborate closely with the Vice Chancellor and the management to elevate FUHSO.
"We are aware of the enormous challenges, and we will do everything possible to improve the Internally Generated Revenue to aid the university in advancing education in Nigeria," said Salami.
He appreciated the presence and commitment of the university delegation, highlighting their dedication to service.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Stephen Abah, representing Vice Chancellor Professor Innocent Ujah, introduced the university delegation to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council.
He conveyed the Vice Chancellor's congratulations and unwavering support for the new council members, despite being out of the country on official international engagement.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, OON, SAN, who inaugurated the new Governing Council members, urged them to justify the Federal Government's confidence through hard work, innovation, and a commitment to advancing tertiary education in Nigeria. He emphasized the need to combat cultism, criminality, drug abuse, and other social vices, encouraging the promotion of responsible unionism to foster institutional growth.
Wole Alanipekun, SAN, Chairman of the Governing Council, University of Lagos, speaking on behalf of the appointees, assured that they would act justly, fairly, and responsibly. He appealed to the Federal Government to remove universities from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), describing it as a hindrance.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Ag. Executive Secretary of NUC, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, the Executive Secretary of Tetfund, Arc. Sunny Echono, OON, the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, among others. The vote of thanks was given by the Permanent Secretary, FME, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
The Governing Council Members of FUHSO include Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Mrs. Mary-Ben Dania representing the Federal Ministry of Education, Hon. Babagana Lawan Chibok, Hon. Gboyega Adedipe, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Lokji Luka Goar, and Alh. Bakura Jibrin as external members.
This development follows the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, approving the dissolution of the Governing Boards of all Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions, and Government-Owned Companies on June 19, 2023.
