In a press release signed by Mazi Ejimofor Opara KSM, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the party has firmly rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to recognize Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA.
The statement asserts that INEC's interpretation of the Court of Appeal judgment, which supposedly affirmed an earlier FCT High Court ruling, is fundamentally flawed. According to APGA, neither the FCT High Court nor the Court of Appeal declared Njoku as the party’s National Chairman. Furthermore, the statement highlights that INEC has no record of monitoring any convention conducted by Njoku.
APGA emphasizes that the purported tenure of Njoku, allegedly originating from a non-existent 2019 convention, has already expired in May 2023. The party has since held a national convention that installed Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa as the current National Chairman.
The release also points out that the Supreme Court never pronounced Njoku as the National Chairman, a position supported by both the Court of Appeal and a subsequent Federal High Court judgment. APGA criticizes INEC for ignoring these judgments and for acting under alleged external pressures, including threats of contempt of court against the INEC Chairman.
