An Authority of Political economy in the Department of Political Science, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Isa Muhammad Abbass has described Public employees' benefits as crucial ingredients that uplift the morale and spirit of workers in attaining self esteem.
He made the disclosure while delivering his inaugural lecture as Professor of political economy titled "The Political Economy of Public Employee Benefits in Nigeria: The Roletarianization of the Elites" at the University Assembly Hall
"Employee benefits are crucial ingredients that uplift the morale and spirits of workers in attaining self-esteem and organizational or state goal.
"Establishment of such benefits provides the energies that galvanize and move the engines of employees and conserve state resources, lower industrial stand-offs and keep stable polity, stabilize economic development, enhance social harmony and cohesion in a society.
"The provision of employee benefits, during and after employment relationships, promotes longevity of employees with large storage of experience and skills for the younger generations to benefit in the execution of new and challenging state policies." He said
Professor Abbass pointed out that esteemed employee values, reduce waste and prevent corrupt practices in an organisation
He added that the less the waste gets into the system, the healthier and more stable the environment would be.
"Invariably, providing employee benefits is only a part of the much-needed efforts to gauge state response to its role and to the needs of employees towards combating strategic change and making a big difference.
"The results of the investigation of this study provide some significant insights into the relationships between the state and the economy, on the one hand, and the politics and economics of employee benefits, on the other hand" The Don added
In his remarks the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Kabiru Bala congratulated the Lecturer for his milestone achievements in the academic circle.
He said that the Nigerian state was not working towards addressing the challenges currently grappling the nation's.
professor Bala lamented in that the elites particularly the political actors have relegated the civil service or destroyed the structure entirely for their personal gains.
The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to called on the Universities Unions to ask Federal Government to bring out the Law that was signed for Professors that serve for 10 - 20 years as Professor when retired should continue enjoying their full package.
He said, it was time for government to forget about policies that were putting Nigerians into a difficult life.
Also commenting on the inaugural Lecture, the Chairman Central Working Committee of Zaria Educational Development Association (ZEDA) Dr. Abdul Alimi Bello described the lecture as apt with the current situation in the country.
He hope that the University management would Sustain the lecture series where issues will be identified and discuss them.
