Imo State Government Rescues Trafficked Underage Girls from Sex Traffickers in Ghana
In a commendable operation spearheaded by the Imo State Government, a group of underage girls from Imo State, who were victims of human trafficking, have been successfully rescued from the clutches of sex traffickers in Accra, Ghana.
The mission, driven by a strong commitment to protect the state's vulnerable children, was led by a high-profile delegation.
The rescue team was led by Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, and Hon. Mrs. Nkechi Ugwu, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Their efforts were in direct response to a directive from the #PeoplesGovernor of Imo State,
Governor Hope Uzodimma, who mandated that the delegation must not return without ensuring the safe return of the trafficked girls.
Governor Uzodimma's firm instructions underscored his administration's zero tolerance for human trafficking and exploitation.
He emphasized the urgent need to protect and rehabilitate the affected girls, ensuring they receive the necessary support and care once they return to Nigeria.
True to the governor's directive, the delegation successfully navigated the complexities of the international rescue operation, ensuring that all the trafficked girls were safely liberated from their captors.
The girls are now on their way back to Imo State, where they will be provided with comprehensive rehabilitation services to help them reintegrate into society and recover from their traumatic experiences.
