The Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has strongly condemned the attack on a Muslim family by a pastor in Iseyin on Eid-el-Adha day. The national leadership of FOMWAN described the incident as callous and inhuman, urging severe sanctions against the pastor and the soldiers he allegedly hired to carry out the attack.
In a statement issued by the National Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Rafiat Idowu-Sanni, the organization expressed deep concern over a video showing a niqab-wearing woman suffering severe head injuries inflicted by the hired soldiers. The statement highlighted the brutality and insensitivity of the attack, noting that one of the victims is pregnant.
FOMWAN called on the federal government, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Army to ensure that justice is served promptly and that the perpetrators are held accountable. The organization also appealed to public-spirited individuals to assist the affected family in completing the fencing of their building to protect them from future aggression.
Additionally, FOMWAN cautioned against rumors of the possible deposition of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa'ad III, emphasizing his role as a unifier and leader of Muslims in Nigeria. The group urged restraint and wisdom in handling such sensitive matters to maintain peace in the country.
On the economic front, FOMWAN urged Nigerian leaders to implement policies that would alleviate the suffering and deprivation of the populace. The organization encouraged citizens to remain patient and to continue praying for positive changes in the nation's economic situation.
