In a significant move to support vulnerable populations, Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by the Vice President's wife, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shattima, officially handed over and symbolically presented food items to internally displaced persons, people living with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups in Nasarawa State.
This initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative food outreach scheme under the federal government’s Social Investment Program.
During the ceremony, it was emphasized that the food outreach scheme aims to support the underprivileged, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to ensuring food security and sufficiency nationwide. Under this program, a trailer load of assorted food items has been donated to the Nasarawa State government for distribution, courtesy of a public-spirited industry committed to monthly contributions.
The federal capital territory, Kano State, and Nasarawa State have already benefited from this scheme.
Expressing gratitude, the First Lady acknowledged the support of Governor Abdullahi Sule for the Renewed Hope Initiative activities, particularly for donating land to accommodate an orphanage and children's home in Nasarawa State.
She also thanked the state's First Lady and Renewed Hope Initiative Coordinator, Hajiya Silifat Sule, for her warm reception and support.
Senator Tinubu reassured beneficiaries of continued support, particularly for families in vulnerable communities.
In a further announcement, she revealed that the federal ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative, plans to donate a truckload of fertilizer and bags of rice to each state, beginning with Nasarawa State.
Additionally, a grant of N50,000 has been approved for 1,000 women in each state as part of the women economic empowerment program.
The items were officially handed over to the Nasarawa State government for distribution to the beneficiaries.
