The FCT Police Command has issued a stern warning against motorists driving without number plates and car dealers exceeding the legally stipulated time for vehicle display.
This action comes in response to rising concerns over crimes such as "one chance" robberies, often linked to vehicles lacking proper identification.
In a press release signed by SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer, Abuja, it was highlighted that Section 25 (5) of the Federal Capital Territory Road Transport Regulation Act, 2005, mandates specific regulations for vehicle identification.
The FCT Police Command has observed a troubling increase in vehicles operating without number plates or with single plates, particularly beyond the permitted hours of 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, has ordered an immediate clampdown on such vehicles. He directed that any vehicle found violating this regulation should be impounded, with the driver arrested and prosecuted.
Additionally, car dealers are warned against unauthorized parking and violating operational hours, facing legal consequences if found guilty.
CP Igweh emphasized the commitment to maintaining safety and security for FCT residents, urging vigilance and encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities through the provided police emergency lines.
