The Principal School of Midwifery, Makurdi, Mrs Victoria Gusa, had advised girls and women against washing their virgina with soap.
Gusa stated this on Thursday while sensitizing them on menstrual hygiene in Makurdi.
She reiterated that they should not use soap to wash their virgina, advising that they should wash it with water only.
'If you use soap to wash your virgina you will contact infection because soaps contain some chemicals in it. So, avoid the use of chemicals especially during menstruation," Gusa said.
She further advised them to change their menstrual pads regularly at least three to six pads in a day, stressing that they should wash their virgina very well to prevent it from smelling.
She further encouraged them to dispose their menstrual or sanitary pads properly, by burning or burying them.
"Do not drop it in the toilet. Do not use toilet tissue as pad. It carries a lot of infection," she said.
Meanwhile, the President and Founder of
Dorcas Women Care and Aid Foundation (DOWCAF), Mrs Dorcas Udepuun, admonished girls and women to improve on their hygiene generally not only the menstrual hygiene.
