Windstorm Causes Devastation in Bauchi Community: Newly Constructed Primary School and Houses Destroyed

The People of Anguwar Yelwa Community in Bauchi LGA are counting their losses following the wind storm that wreaked havoc in the area.

Confirming the incident to reporters in Bauchi over the weekend , the traditional ruler in the area Mai Unguwar Ñgas Mr Christopher Wakili, said the tragedy occurred on Saturday April 20, 2024 in the evening.

He said the windstorm destroyed a newly constructed primary school building and  houses in the area but luckily enough the students of the school were not in school when the incident occurred.

Wakili said the storm razed down a newly constructed primary school while four houses were destroyed and several others were affected in one way or the other.

The traditional ruler said “we thank Allah that no life was lost and no one sustain any injury because the incident happened late evening when pupils are not on school.”

He called on the government to urgently intervene to cushion the effects on the people of the community, and assist the victims of the windstorm to enable those who cannot afford to repair their houses.

Also speaking on the incident, the headmaster of Yelwan Ngas Primary School Sani Aliyu described the incident as unfortunate.

Aliyu said “we are sad because a new building of classroom which was built under Special Intervention Project (SIP) was destroyed, the building has reached advance stage of completion but see the blocks and the gravels and the debris

“The incident happened yesterday (Saturday) in the evening,” he said, adding that the community will write a report over the incident and send it to higher authorities for necessary action. End
