Troops Respond to Attack on Oyo State Secretariat, Apprehend Nine Suspects

In response to an attack on the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, 13 April 2024, troops swiftly engaged with Yoruba Nation adherents who were reportedly dressed in foreign military camouflage and armed with dangerous weapons.

Upon confrontation with the troops, the Yoruba Nation adherents opened fire, prompting a shootout. Utilizing superior firepower, the troops managed to subdue the attackers, who subsequently fled the scene. 

As a result of the engagement, nine members of the group were apprehended. Additionally, one Semi Automatic Pump Action rifle and ammunition were recovered from the scene.

Currently, troops are in pursuit of the fleeing attackers, and the situation is reported to be under control. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the area.

The public is urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies. Maintaining peace and order in the region remains a top priority for the authorities.
