Kebbi State - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kebbi State Chapter has expressed concern over the recent remarks made by the State Governor during the Traditional Durbar and Sallah Homage held on Thursday, April 11th, 2024.

The event, which was intended to celebrate the Eid-El Fitr and reflect on the teachings of Ramadan, reportedly became a platform for the Governor to settle personal scores with perceived opponents of the government.

In a statement released by the PDP Kebbi State Chapter, the party highlighted that the Governor's comments veered off critical issues facing the state, such as the growing number of Almajirai, unemployment, and sanitation. Instead, the Governor addressed matters that could be handled by ministerial departments or the State Preaching Board.

The PDP expressed shock at the Governor's recorded threats against clerics critical of the administration, emphasizing that such actions contravene constitutional provisions on freedom of expression and association.

The party also criticized the Governor's remarks favoring APC members as beneficiaries of government incentives, describing the statement as undemocratic, illegal, and contrary to the oath of office.

The PDP reminded the Governor of the prophetic Hadith emphasizing leadership responsibility and questioned the fate of the 93% of the state's population not affiliated with the APC.

In conclusion, the PDP urged government media handlers and protocol officials to exercise decorum in public communications to avoid unnecessary criticism and public ridicule. The party reiterated its support for religious leaders and clerics in promoting morality and values in society.
