The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the recent arrest and detention of several loyalists of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, in Abuja. The arrests took place on Thursday, 18 April 2024, and the party is urging the Inspector General of Police to release them immediately.

Among those arrested were Hon. Goodboy Sokari Goodboy, the Lawmaker representing Ahoada East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, and Mr Ezebunwo Ichemati.

The arrests were conducted by the Nigeria Police, reportedly under the supervision of Ikwerre local government Council Chairman, Samuel Nwanosike.

In response to the incident, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Sydney Tambari Gbara, stated that these arrests were part of a broader strategy to intimidate Governor Fubara's supporters and potentially spark unrest in Rivers State.

Despite Governor Fubara's efforts to maintain peace in the state, the party alleges ongoing harassment of his loyalists.

Gbara further highlighted the disparity in treatment, noting that while supporters from other states were welcomed without incident at the Wadata House, those from Rivers State faced harassment and detention by the police.

The PDP called on the police to remain neutral and not allow themselves to be manipulated for political gains. Additionally, the party urged supporters of Governor Fubara to remain steadfast in their commitment to his administration.
