NDLEA Destroys Over 300,000kg of Illicit Drugs Seized in Lagos and Ogun

Lagos, April 16, 2024 - The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has publicly destroyed a massive haul of illicit drugs, totaling 304,436kg and 40,042 litres, seized from various locations in Lagos and Ogun states.

The destruction ceremony took place in Badagry, Lagos, and was presided over by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd). The action followed court orders and marked the culmination of related cases in court.

Marwa emphasized the importance of public support for NDLEA's efforts to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.

 The seized drugs, which included cocaine, heroin, cannabis, and tramadol, among others, were confiscated by NDLEA operatives from January 2022 to date at seaports, airports, and land borders.

The NDLEA boss thanked traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, religious leaders, NGOs, CSOs, and other stakeholders who witnessed the ceremony, highlighting the collaborative efforts with local and international partners, including the American Drug Enforcement Administration (US-DEA), United Kingdom NCA, and Indian NCB, among others.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Chairman of Badagry West Local Government, Mr. Olusegun Onilude, commended NDLEA's relentless fight against illicit drugs. 

He acknowledged the agency's War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign and pledged continued collaboration with NDLEA in curbing the drug menace.
