The Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB) has cautioned residents against the abuse of the national currency, the Naira. In light of intensified efforts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to curb currency abuse, DSOB's Chief Executive Officer, Barrister Latimore Oghenesivbe, highlighted the importance of adhering to the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The EFCC's taskforce on Naira abuse has ramped up operations across all zones, including Delta State, to uphold the currency's integrity. Oghenesivbe identified various prohibited actions such as spraying Naira at events, writing on banknotes, and selling or mutilating them.
Emphasizing the consequences of currency abuse, Oghenesivbe stated that the EFCC's ongoing arrests and prosecutions underscore the need for public awareness.
He commended the EFCC's efforts, noting 24 convictions nationwide and ongoing prosecutions, including that of Mr. Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest.
In alignment with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's MORE Agenda, which prioritizes peace and security for development, DSOB urged Deltans to respect the law and preserve the Naira's integrity.
Oghenesivbe concluded by urging citizens to refrain from activities that deface or devalue the Naira to avoid legal repercussions.
