Abuja - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released a statement addressing the ongoing investigations into alleged financial misappropriation within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.

Head, Media & Publicity confirmed that since the commencement of the investigations, past and suspended officials of the ministry have been invited by the Commission.
As a result of these investigations, a total of N32.7 billion and $445,000 have been recovered so far.
The EFCC's discreet investigations have also uncovered fraudulent activities related to Covid-19 funds, the World Bank loan, and the Abacha recovered loot allocated to the Ministry for poverty alleviation. Several interdicted and suspended officials of the Ministry have been linked to these alleged financial malpractices.
The Commission emphasizes that its investigations target the system and a complex network of fraudulent practices rather than individuals.
Banks implicated in the alleged fraud are also under investigation, with Managing Directors of the implicated banks providing useful information to investigators.
The EFCC confirms that no one allegedly involved in the fraud has been cleared, and investigations are ongoing.
The public is urged to disregard any claims suggesting otherwise.
In addition, the EFCC acknowledges the public's support and involvement in combating Naira abuse and dollarization of the economy.
The Commission has noted an increase in reports of Naira abuse through video recordings, reflecting public awareness of the importance of preserving the integrity of the national currency.
The Commission reiterates its commitment to investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in Naira abuse.
While acknowledging the emergence of old videos depicting such infractions, the EFCC emphasizes that its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the Economy began operations on February 7, 2024. Going forward, new videos of Naira abuse will be investigated and prosecuted.
Currently, the Commission is investigating several celebrities implicated in Naira abuse, with many providing useful statements to investigators.
The EFCC remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the law without favoritism, and the public is advised to comply with laws against financial crimes.
