Today, Thursday, April 18, 2024, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened its 98th meeting, where they deliberated on the state of the nation and the party. Here are the key resolutions reached:
1. Commendation to Party Organs: NEC praised all party organs for their unwavering commitment and resilience towards the unity and stability of the PDP amid challenging times.
2. Youth and Women Recognition**: The committee acknowledged the courage of PDP members, especially the youth and women, in standing against the divisive strategies of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
3. Concern Over APC Policies: NEC expressed concern over the poorly implemented policies of the APC government, highlighting issues like insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and high living costs.
4. Alarm Over Terrorism and Violence: The committee voiced serious apprehensions over the rising acts of terrorism, mindless killings, and mass abductions occurring across the country.
5. Condemnation of APC's Performance: NEC criticized the APC administration for its perceived incompetence, arrogance, and lack of commitment to the well-being of Nigerians.
6. Opposition to One-Party State Tendencies: The committee condemned the APC's drift towards a one-party state, which they viewed as detrimental to democracy and national stability.
7. Call for National Security Council Meeting: NEC demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urgently convene a special National Security Council meeting to address the escalating insecurity in the country.
8. Economic Team Rejig: The committee urged President Tinubu to overhaul his economic team with competent and unbiased individuals to help reposition the economy.
9. Review of Economic Policies: NEC called on the Federal Government to reconsider policies stifling the economy, including fuel price hikes, increased taxation, and adverse fiscal policies.
10. Unity Among PDP Members: NEC encouraged all party organs, leaders, and stakeholders to unite and work towards returning the PDP to power for the benefit of Nigerians.
11. Approval of Party Congress Timetable: The committee received and approved the timetable for party congresses across the country.
12. Reconstitution of Disciplinary and Reconciliation Committees: NEC approved the reconstitution of the Party Disciplinary and Reconciliation Committees to enhance party stability.
13. Extension for Constitution Amendment Committee: The committee extended the life of the Party Constitution Amendment Committee to accommodate new proposals.
14. Praise for Rebranding Efforts: NEC commended the National Working Committee for its rebranding efforts, including the new PDP logo, which has received widespread acceptance.
15. Call for Continued Efforts: Finally, NEC urged all party members to continue working together for the success of the PDP and the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.
