President Tinubu initially presented a budget of N27.5 trillion to the National Assembly, comprising various allocations for recurrent and capital expenditures, as well as debt servicing. Contrary to Senator Ningi's claims, the budget was not N25 trillion, and the National Assembly passed an amended version totaling N28.7 trillion, which President Tinubu duly signed into law on January 1, 2024.
The President's office emphasized the democratic process whereby the National Assembly has the authority to adjust budget figures, which was exercised in this instance. Additionally, allegations of bias against the North within the budget were dismissed, with assurances of equitable distribution across all regions of Nigeria.
Senator Yemi Adaramodu and other senators were commended for their efforts in clarifying the situation and standing against misinformation.
President Tinubu's commitment to constitutional democracy and adherence to the law were underscored, affirming that only the N28.7 trillion budget passed by the National Assembly is being implemented.
