Nigeria Advances Towards Creation of National Climate Change Fund

The National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), in collaboration with the UK-Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UK-NIAF), convened a high-level roundtable today at the Continental Hotel in Abuja to discuss the establishment of the National Climate Change Fund.

Addressing participants, Dr. Salisu Dahiru, the Director General of the NCCC, emphasized the pivotal role of the fund in addressing climate challenges in Nigeria.

Head of Press and Public Relations Unit e-copy made available to newsmen in Abuja,  quoted the DG, highlighted its significance in facilitating both mitigation and adaptation efforts, stressing its potential to promote clean technology expertise, infrastructure development, and green growth.

Dr. Salisu underscored the importance of developing a robust business plan for the fund to ensure its long-term viability and effectiveness.

 He reiterated Nigeria's commitment to sustained climate action and expressed gratitude for the partnership with the UK government in this endeavor.

Martine Sobey, representing the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), highlighted the UK-NIAF's support for Nigeria's energy transition and efforts to increase climate finance.

The roundtable session, attended by representatives from various government ministries, departments, agencies, and private development partners, aimed to foster constructive dialogue and propel Nigeria forward in achieving its national climate goals.
