On Thursday, March 14th, 2024, a distressing incident unfolded in Okuama community, as troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion, stationed in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, faced a fatal assault while on a peace mission.

Acting Director, Defence Information, said the mission was in response to escalating communal tensions between Okuama and Okoloba communities.
Despite efforts to reinforce and support the troops, led by their Commanding Officer, they were surrounded and attacked by youths from Okuama, resulting in tragic casualties.
Among the fallen were the Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 courageous Soldiers who lost their lives in service to their nation.
In light of this reprehensible act, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), swiftly ordered an immediate investigation to ensure justice for the fallen soldiers.
The Delta State Government has been alerted, and collaborative efforts are underway to address this grave incident.
Despite this setback, the military remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace and security nationwide. Preliminary arrests have been made, and efforts are ongoing to uncover the motives behind this cowardly attack.
