The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) for failing to fulfill its promise to kickstart local government electoral processes in February, as stated in the commission's official statement earlier this year.

In a statement issued by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara (Sholyments), the Party expressed dismay over KWASIEC's backtrack, labeling it as evidence of the commission's alignment with Governor Abdulrazaq's interests rather than serving the people.

The PDP reiterated its lack of confidence in the current leadership of KWASIEC and called for its immediate dissolution, threatening legal action if necessary to rectify what it perceives as an infringement on grassroots democracy.

Furthermore, the Party criticized Governor Abdulrazaq for allegedly stalling local government elections during his tenure, attributing it to a lack of democratic structures at the grassroots level, which has led to various challenges including insecurity and economic hardship.

The PDP called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to intervene by withholding monthly allocations to the sixteen local government areas in Kwara until elections are conducted, in a bid to compel Governor Abdulrazaq to act promptly and restore peace to the grassroots communities.
