In a stern warning, the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo State cautioned Governor Godwin Obaseki and the State House of Assembly (EDHA) against proceeding with the impeachment of Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu, stating that such actions could potentially trigger anarchy.
Following an emergency meeting, CRPP Chairman Samson Isibor and Secretary Barrister John Isidhaome issued a joint statement expressing grave concerns over the impeachment plans. They emphasized that the Deputy Governor has not committed any impeachable offense or violated his oath of office.
The CRPP asserted that the people of Edo State reserve the exclusive right to demand impeachment for serious offenses such as corruption or misappropriation of public funds, none of which they believe Shaibu has committed. Instead, they argue, Shaibu is rightfully exercising his democratic right to seek the governorship ticket of his party.
Furthermore, the CRPP accused Governor Obaseki of favoritism in supporting Asue Ighodalo for the PDP ticket without adhering to party guidelines.
They warned against underestimating Shaibu's significant following in Edo State and urged Obaseki to prioritize addressing the state's security challenges, particularly the threat posed by Fulani herdsmen.
In a plea for peace and progress, CRPP urged Governor Obaseki to focus on facilitating a smooth transition of power to the next administration, rather than instigating political turmoil.
They concluded by expressing hope for a swift end to Obaseki's tenure, emphasizing the need for positive change and development in Edo State.
