Tears roll down my cheeks when I saw the level of casualty in my hometown yesterday Friday, March 1, 2024.
I couldn't bear the pains of the innocent child crunched by a moving car. When I thought that was all, I saw blood gushing out of some who tried to prevent an attack on securities attached to the VIP. It didn't end there, I was shocked to have seen lifeless police men lying down helplessly. I lost in thought immediately, but I asked myself, do people really deserve to die like this?
The uniform on the school child broke my heart, but when I saw the lifeless police men I gave up on wicked Nigeria citizens who think displaying this kind of inhuman treatment will bring the problem of Nigeria to an end.
Those who witnessed the incident testified that the bike man was at fault. Why then the jungle justice on the policemen, brutally attacked by the angry mob who unleashed their anger on the police men, beating them mercilessly and subjecting them to various forms of inhumane treatment before sending them to their early grave.
At first, I never knew this had happened until I put a call across to the relevant authority to ask for the measure we could take to arrest the situation, but as I listened to different commentaries from the road side, my heart broke into pieces.
These police men, who are meant to protect and serve the citizens, were treated worse than animals. They were dehumanized, stripped of their dignity and subjected to jungle justice.
This incident is a clear reflection of the state of lawlessness and lack of respect for human rights in our society. It is unacceptable for any individual or group to take the law into their own hands and mete out jungle justice to anyone, no matter the circumstances.
While the relevant institutions are putting their heads together to console the families of all the victims, I call on the relevant authorities to investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible for the dehumanization and jungle justice against the police men are brought to justice. We must uphold the rule of law and respect for human rights in our society, no matter the circumstances.
It is truly heartbreaking to hear that the violence has escalated, and innocent individuals may face the consequences of such in retaliation. It is also important for all parties involved to seek a peaceful resolution and for the authorities to step in to prevent further violence and ensure the safety measures by erecting speed brake in front of Ikpeshi Grammar School.
Let also appeal to the Akoko-Edo Local Government Council to improve the infrastructure in Okhueromoh Primary School by ensuring that there is a functioning water system to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.
It is crucial for the government to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents, especially the children who are most vulnerable.
I hope that the situation can be resolved peacefully and that justice can be served for all those affected by these tragic events. It is important for communities to come together and work towards building a peaceful and harmonious society where the rule of law is upheld and everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
