President Tinubu Announces Leadership Changes In Health, Social Welfare Sector

In a bid to elevate Nigeria's public health administration to global standards and ensure quality care for all citizens, President Bola Tinubu has approved significant leadership appointments within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The appointments include:

1. National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC):
   - Dr. Mansur Kabir appointed as Board Chairperson.
   - Prof. Moji Adeyeye reappointed as Chief Executive Officer.

2. National Blood Service Commission (NBSC):
   - Prof. Abba Zubairu named as Board Chairperson.
   - Dr. Saleh Yuguda appointed as Chief Executive Officer.

3. Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN):
   - Prof. Afolabi Lesi assigned as Board Chairperson.
   - Dr. Fatima Kyari appointed as Chief Executive Officer.

4. Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN):
   - Pharm. Wasilat Giwa appointed as Board Chairperson.
   - Pharm. Ibrahim Ahmed reappointed as Chief Executive Officer.

5. Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN):
   - Dr. Babajide Salako named as Board Chairperson.
   - Dr. Tosan Erhabor appointed as Chief Executive Officer.

6. Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola (MAUTH):
   - Prof. Adamu G. Bakari appointed as Chief Medical Director / CEO.

7. Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua (ISTH):
   - Prof. Reuben Eifediyi appointed as Chief Medical Director / CEO.

Additionally, President Tinubu has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), effective February 19, 2024:

8. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC):
   - Dr. Olajide Idris appointed as Director-General / CEO.

These appointments reflect President Tinubu's commitment to enhancing Nigeria's public health surveillance and security. Notably, Dr. Olajide Idris, the new NCDC Director-General/CEO, brings extensive experience, having served as the Commissioner of Health in Lagos State and holding a Master's degree in Public Health from Yale University.

Furthermore, the newly appointed leaders, such as Prof. Abba Zubairu and Dr. Fatima Kyari, bring diverse expertise to their roles, ensuring a robust approach to healthcare under President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
