The Chairman of the Edo State PDP National Delegates Congress Committee, His Excellency, Sir Monday Onyeme, held a press conference at the PDP state secretariat along Airport Road, Benin City, at about noon today, 10-02-2024.
According to the committee Chairman, the committee members arrived in Benin City on Friday for the sole purpose of conducting a free and fair election. He further stated that the committee has gone around some of the local government centers to observe the election. He stated that the elections were generally peaceful, free, and fair.
In some of the local government areas visited, some of the aspirants stepped down voluntarily.
He commended the party members for their peaceful conduct. The chairman further applauded the security agencies for their diligence.
He called on the media to give the right reportage as it happened in the field. Lastly, he said results are expected across the local government areas after which proper collation will commence.
According to reports, the committee, ably led by the chairman, Sir Monday Onyeme, visited Egor, Oredo, and Ikpoba-Okha local government centers. In Egor local government, four (4) aspirants vied for the position.
They are Hon. Barr. Nosa Adams Toyaki, Hon. Samuel Emovon, Chief Odion Olaye, and Osamuyinwen Ogiemeonyi. Hon. Samuel Emovon stepped down for Chief Odion Olaye. While the duo of Hon. Nosa Adams Toyaki and Osamuyinwen Ogiemeonyi were absent.
After the conduct of the election by the officials from the national secretariat, Hon. Nosa Adams Toyaki scored 0 votes, Osamuyinwen Ogiemeonyi scored 0 votes, Chief Odion Olaye scored 30 votes. Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, Chief Odion Olaye was declared the winner and returned elected.
