In a significant move aimed at bolstering Nigeria's agricultural sector, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, unveiled the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme (South East Zone) on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Imo Government House, Owerri, Imo State. Dr. Mrs. Mary Alile, the APC National Women Leader, stood in solidarity, highlighting the collaborative effort between the Office of the First Lady and the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA).
The initiative targets to empower two million women farmers nationwide.
At the launch, 80 women farmers received N500,000 grants each, with an additional 400 enrolled in training and agricultural inputs assistance programmes by NALDA.
Senator Tinubu reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector for improved development and food sufficiency, outlining support measures such as provision of fingerlings, feed, poultry birds, cassava stems, and fertilizers.
Moreover, the event saw 100 physically challenged individuals from Imo State benefit from the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Programme, receiving N100,000 each to support their businesses.
Governor Hope Uzodinma and his wife, Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma, hosted the event, joined by dignitaries including the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Prince Paul Ikonne.
