The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed into second reading A Bill for a Law to Amend, Repeal and Re- Enact the Nasarawa State Harmonization and Administration of Revenue Law and for Purposes Connected Therewith.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, announced the passage of the bill into second reading during the House proceedings in Lafia today.
The Speaker commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for initiating the bill, saying that the bill would curtail multiple tax collections and would boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the State.
Speaker Jatau also appreciated members for their positive contributions on the bill
According to the Speaker, the law if amended will checkmate irregularities or problems in revenue collection in the State.
The Speaker also said that the law if re-enacted would provide an enabling environment for business activities to thrive.
" As this will reduce complaints by people on multiple or duplications in tax collections.
" As this will ensure accountability and transparency in revenue collections in the state," he said.
The Speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to work on it and report back to the House on Tuesday, next week.
In their various contributions on the bill, Hon Daniel Ogazi, Hon Muhammad Oyanki, Hon Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, Hon Hudu A Hudu, Hon Esson Mairiga, Hon Larry Ven- Bawa, Hon Abel Bala, Hon Musa Ibrahim, Hon Solomon Akwashiki, Hon Mohammed Omadefu, Hon Peter Akwe, Hon Mohammed Isimbabi, Hon Abdullahi Sa'ad, Hon Jonah Ali-Dizaho and Hon Kudu Jacob said that the amended bill is apt and if passed would reduce duplications as well as illegal tax collection in the State.
They said that the law if passed would increase IGR and enable government to provide social services.
They also said that the bill would encourage investors to come to the state to invest as well as would provide an enabling environment for business activities to thrive.
Earlier, The Majority Leader Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara while giving substance on the bill said that the essence was to ensure central collection system of revenue in the State.
" As the law is to ensure accountability and transparency in revenue collections.
" The law if repealed and passed will bring speedy development to the State," he said.
He called on his colleagues to support him to enable the bill scale second reading.
The majority leader, thereafter, moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading which was seconded by Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House.

It would be reported that the Speaker, has earlier welcomed students from Federal Government Girls College, Keana, who are in the House to observe the day's proceedings.
