Kebbi Government to Partner with Yauri Emirate to Sustain Rigata Cultural Festival - Governor Idris

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, has pledged the state government's commitment to partnering with the Yauri Emirate to ensure the sustainability of the Rigata and cultural festival, scheduled to be held annually.

Governor Idris made this declaration during the 2024 Rigata and Cultural Festival in Yauri, Yauri Local Government Area, marking a historic occasion with diverse cultural displays from various ethnic groups within the Emirate.

He applauded the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad Abdullahi, for fostering unity among the different ethnic communities under his leadership and expressed admiration for the rich cultural heritage showcased during the event.

"We are witnessing a remarkable testament to the unity fostered by the Emir of Yauri, and we have learned much from the fantastic events displayed here," remarked Governor Idris, affirming the government's commitment to sustaining the festival in collaboration with the emirate.

Governor Kauran Gwandu also announced plans for the construction of a permanent site for the festival by the following year, emphasizing the government's dedication to infrastructural development in the area.

Highlighting achievements within his administration's first eight months, Governor Idris underscored progress in infrastructural development, including road construction and investment in education and agriculture, such as the provision of solar-powered pumps to farmers.

The Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to Governor Nasir Idris for his support towards the festival's success and for advancing infrastructural development in Yauri and its environs.

In his welcome address, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, Chairman of the Rigata and Cultural Festival, reiterated the commitment to investing in permanent structures for the festival's sustainability under the leadership of Governor Kauran Gwandu.

The event, spanning three days, featured various activities, including agricultural shows, cultural performances, and water sports, showcasing the rich traditions and marine prowess of the Yauri people.

Professor Nasiru Isah Yauri provided insights into the historical significance of Rigata in Yauri's ancient heritage, tracing its roots back to pre-Sokoto Caliphate times.

Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, Minister of State for Education and native of Yauri, commended Governor Nasir Idris for elevating the Rigata festival to national recognition.

Representatives from various dignitaries, including the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, were present at the occasion, highlighting the festival's importance on the national stage.

The festivities included water events such as boat races and swimming competitions, alongside cultural displays and the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities.
