The high court sitting in Benin City has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Curtis Ogbebor, Kelly Osunbor Omokaro, and Charles Idehen against Omobude Agho, Osazee Edigin, Omoruyi Egharevba, Justice Itietie, and Keshi St. Lawrence, alleging a nonexistent leadership tussle within EDOCSO. Presiding Judge Hon. Justice Peter Akhimie Akhihiero ruled in favor of the defendants, citing the abandonment of the case and lack of diligence in its prosecution. This marks the end of a legal battle that commenced in 2022, with the plaintiffs ordered to pay a cost of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) to the defendants.
The lawsuit, which stemmed from misinformation circulating on social media regarding the tenure of the previous executive of EDOCSO, highlights the organization's commitment to good governance, social justice, and human rights. EDOCSO, comprising various civil society groups and community-based formations, emphasizes collaboration over personal ambition, as demonstrated by its nonpartisan stance.
The outcome serves as a lesson and a deterrent against future attempts to disrupt the organization's cohesion. The present leadership, headed by interim TEC chairman Leftist Austine Enabulele, remains steadfast in upholding the principles of activism and welcomes back any dissenting members who choose to realign with the coalition's goals.
Reiterated the organization's commitment to inclusivity and urged former litigants to embrace reconciliation and unity for the greater good of society.
