Governor Abdullahi Sule stated that he bears no responsibility for the plight of the women who protested and were subsequently charged by police authorities for alleged public disturbance following the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming his election victory.
He made his position known during a visit by stakeholders from Lafia Local Government Area, led by the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed (rtd), to the Government House on Tuesday,
Governor Sule emphasized that he has forgiven the women and all those who contested his reelection since the Supreme Court upheld his victory.
"I have been inundated with calls seeking the release of the protesting women. I have no objection to their release, even as of today, as I have personally forgiven them," he stated.
However, he attributed their predicament to those who misled the women into their actions, only to abandon them in their time of need.
"If those who incited the women to protest had genuine concern for them, they would have already provided bail. Instead, they left the women to face the consequences alone," he added.
Governor Sule took the opportunity to express gratitude to the people of Lafia for their unwavering support during the 2023 general elections and throughout the legal proceedings culminating in the Supreme Court judgment.
He also commended their patience, particularly in the face of provocation, when opposition members resorted to nighttime insults and abuse directed at their leaders.
Governor Sule specifically acknowledged the role of the Emir of Lafia in promoting unity and peace within the state capital.
He reassured the delegation that his administration remains committed to elevating Lafia to a fitting status as the capital of Nasarawa State.
Earlier, during the visit, the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed (rtd), as leader of the delegation, expressed their support for the Governor and celebrated his victory at the Supreme Court.
